The course is designed for people from various helping professions such as
The course is suitable for all people interested in becoming trained counsellors who have completed introductory courses.

The Datrmoor Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy is set in a substantial and beautiful Victorian house in Newton Abbot just 8 minutes walk from the mainline station and the centre of Newton Abbot.
The two large teaching rooms occupy the ground floor. There is a large communal kitchen where groups if they wish may prepare and share food together. We feel this kind of facility helps to build the community of counsellors that is central to our philosophy. Students will be able to enjoy the gardens on those gloriously sunny Devon days.
Philosophy
At the centre of our philosophy is relationship. Our course is profoundly person centred and this informs everything we do and particularly guides the nature of the relationships we build. We view the therapeutic relationship as the crucible for change, with empathy, congruence and unconditional regard as vital for connectedness to both self and others.
We believe in the creativity that lies at the heart of the human impulse to grow and develop. This is what informs our philosophy : the joy of this creativity. At times on our life’s journey we can feel restricted, disconnected from our creativity, and our resources insufficient, and at other times we can feel ourselves to be empowered and overflowing with possibility. We believe that a counselling approach that places relationship and deep respect at the centre of its work offers the widest and supportive experience for contact with our creativity. These ideas will inform your educational and personal experience with us.
The course offers inumerable opportunities for exploring relationship as a tool for personal growth. The course is experiential, with opportunities for discussion of ideas and theories, skills practice, sand play, writing therapy, the creative arts and many other wonderful opportunities for personal development. Your trainers bring a rich and varied diversity of related Humanistic practice and professional experience to the course. We do not believe that one Humanistic approach has a monopoly on truth or effectiveness. Your training is designed to help you develop trust in your own personal synthesis of Humanistic Counselling that is both profoundly person centred and creative.
