The next Certificate in Counselling begins January 11th 2012. The course begins at 10.00 am and finishes at 5pm.  This course enables entrance to the Advanced Diploma in Counselling the professional qualification.

This course provides a foundation for the safe use of counselling skills, and an  overview of the counselling profession. It attempts to create both an intellectual and emotional understanding of the uniqueness of the counselling relationship and what might be needed by each individual  to make progress towards future professional status as a Counsellor.

This course provides a fun and practical introduction to counselling theory, counselling skills and personal development. It is suitable for anyone involved in a caring profession who wishes to significantly  develop their skills.  The course is also suitable to anyone  interested in learning more about counselling skills and theory. The course will open many pathways to diverse career possibilities.


Course content

• Introduction to Person-Centred Counselling and a brief introduction to other approaches.
• An introduction to and practise of reflective counselling skills
• Introduction to professional issues in relation to counselling including the BACP Ethical Framework.
• An introduction to personal development

Assessment

You will keep a weekly journal that will provide a learning record demonstrating evidence of understanding and progress through the course.   It is understood that many students will not have been in education for some time and support will be given in completing the written work. A minimum of 80% attendance is required.

There are no formal entry requirements. This course is open to anyone with a general interest in learning about the skills of Counselling.

The format for this course will be one day a week from 10am  until 5pm  for 10 days.

The College is set in a substantial and beautiful Victorian house in Newton Abbot just 8 minutes walk from the mainline station and the centre of Newton Abbot. We can pick you up if there is a need.

The two large  teaching rooms occupy the ground floor.  There is a large communal kitchen where groups if they wish may prepare and share food together. We feel this kind of facility helps to build the community of counsellors that is central to our philosphy. Students will be able to enjoy the gardens on those gloriously  sunny Devon days.
