Healing Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress:
a 4 day Body-Centered and Mindfulness-based training
for Counsellors, Psychotherapists and other health professionals
(spread over two weekends)
Tutor Romeck van Zeijl
The training consists of three interwoven strands:
1) The theoretical underpinnings of working with Trauma: how it affects our body and brain, our relationships, and our being in the world. The theory avoids jargon and is presented in small sections, each followed by:
2) In-depth experiential exercises in small groups that enable participants to acquire a repertoire of practical skills and interventions. Many of these exercises focus on building on strengths and developing resources. The exercises are always followed by a large group session, in which there is room for personal process as well as finding a more embodied understanding of theory through dialogue and questions.
3) Relational skills and embodied self-awareness. As most Trauma has a relational aspect, it can only be healed in the context of a safe relationship. Simple but essential Mindfulness practices are introduced to develop a capacity for being “Present”, resourced and emotionally available in relationship. Participants also learn the invaluable skill of inducing a state of Mindfulness in others.
